Red kangaroo joeys start life off the size of a jelly bean. When they are born they make their way up to mom’s pouch. By the time the baby is 5 months old it will be popping in and out of the pouch to graze on grass. It will stay close to mom, but will continue to nurse and be dependent on her until it is about 9 months old.
